  1. 1
I see black spots on my wall, is that mold?

It might not be, have you had a water problem. You can’t have a mold problem without a water source such as a leak or uncontrolled relative humidity.

  2. 2
My husband and my children have been getting sick a lot, is that from mold?

Is there something in your home that you think may be mold? Do they feel better when they’re out of the home, if yes, then they could be reacting to something in the house.
I see green mold on the outside of my stucco, is that a problem?
If it’s the North side of your home, then it’s typically mildew and generally not a concern.

  3. 3
I’ve got what looks like Black Mold, is that the toxic stuff?

First off, the media has blown out of proportion the dangers of black mold. Yes, if you have the species Stachybotrys under the right conditions it could be toxic, but just because it’s black doesn’t it’s the toxic black mold.

  4. 4
I got water in my basement, I’m afraid I might get mold – how do I know?

The rule of thumb is, if you get the wetted materials completely dry in 48 hours you’ve got a real strong chance of preventing mold growth. Do nothing and you’ll have mold start to grow.

  5. 5
I’ve got mold, how much is it going to cost to fix it.

There’s no standardized pricing for mold remediation. It’s a combination of factors such location, size of damaged area, what contents are impacted, etc.

  6. 6
I’ve got mold, can I clean it myself?

Absolutely, there are no Federal or State guidelines that say, you can’t. If it’s a small area and there are no high risk individuals in the space, you’re good to go.

  7. 7
My wife smells something that she thinks is a mold smell, what do I do?

Well, whatever you do, don’t argue with your wife. Women’s olfactory senses (sense of smell) are more acute then men and that’s genetic. A musty odor is a telltale sign that there is mold growth occurring.

  8. 8
My basement smells musty, what do I do?

A musty odor is a telltale sign that there is mold growth occurring. Think back, have you had ground water come in, have you had washing machine overflow or a toilet overflow, are you running a dehumidifier?

  9. 9
I went up in the attic to get decorations and there’s mold there, what do I do?

This is something we see a lot once fall comes around. It could be caused by a lack of proper ventilation or not enough insulation. This one usually requires a consultant to lack at it for you.

  10. 10
We did a home mold test and it says we have mold, what do I do?

First off, don’t panic. Unfortunately the home mold test kits have not been proven to be reliable. Have a conversation with one of our consultants who will put you through a screening process to determine if you have a problem and what your options are.

  11. 11
We had someone come out and take tests and they said we have mold, but they didn’t tell us why or what to do. Who should I call?

Call the Ghost Busters! No seriously, call the Mold Busters! Seriously, what did you contract them to do, they may only do testing for mold and not Environmental consultants. A consultant would determine the causation, the extent and a plan to correct it.

  12. 12
I have cracks in my stucco and I’ve seen water stains around the windows, does that mean I might have mold in my walls.

It could, both of these could be cause for concern. Consult with our stucco experts to help you determine how bad of a problem you may have.

  16. 16
I’ve got mold, do I have to move out of my house when you remove it? Can we be here while the work is being done?

Yes, a mold remediation protocol would focus on containing the area and not cross-contaminating.

  17. 17
    Does my insurance cover this?

Sometimes, it all depends on your coverage. You need to pull out your policy and look at to see if mold is excluded, most are unfortunately. Some policies have limited coverage.

I think that my basement got water in the past and the sellers didn’t disclose it, what should I do?

You will need to have an assessment to determine if you can document a pre-existing condition.

  19. 19
My neighbors are having their stucco removed and it looks moldy in the walls, should I get my house checked too.

Yes, if you think about it all the homes in your development were built the same way. Often times we get called out to do stucco inspections and they haven’t had any signs other than their neighbors having problems.
